Empower School of Movement invites Durham dancers to audition for Mapping the Movement: Where Black Durham Built, a paid, intergenerational performance presented as part of the 2026 Durham FRINGE Festival.
Mapping the Movement is a new artistic storytelling initiative exploring Durham’s Black artistic legacy through movement, music, memory, and place. Dance is our primary lens, while the work opens a wider conversation about the artists, educators, cultural leaders, communities, and institutions that have shaped Black Durham.

For this first chapter, we are intentionally gathering dancers across generations and especially welcome Hillside High School Dance alumni, NCCU dancers and alumni, former Empower dancers, and other artists connected to Durham’s dance community.
